Wizard of Oz Birthday Party

Wandering around your yellow brick road looking for OZ? This Wizard of Oz Birthday party is full of fun ideas that you can recreate all on your own! Because really, there's NO place like HOME!

Pull on your striped socks, grab your ruby slippers and let's get this party started!
My amazing friend Jaime, is the creative genius behind this stunning party. She sews and cooks fabulous dishes, while I bring her party ideas to life with paper, paint and glitter!

Putting together a party can be hard work but it's enjoying what you've created that makes it all worthwhile. Make your dishes simple, so that guests can help themselves.

Munchkin Bites - mini corndogs
Cowardly Lion Stew - stew in a crock pot
Scarecrow Hats - Bugles
Yellow Brick Dip - hot queso dip in a warming dish
Witches Brooms - PB cups with pretzels stuck into the centers

Dessert Treats can also double as take home gifts for your party munchkins.
Jaime served the cupcakes outside and passed out caramel apples and lollipops to the guests as they left the party.

If you ask a few of your guests to dress up, this not only makes for a fun party but also, great photos too! The tin man was a huge hit with all the munchkins and they gave him a heart, while blindfolded.

The sidewalk was turned into a yellow brick road with simple yellow table clothes drawn on with a black sharpie and held down by golf tees, so it didn't blow away in the fall breeze.

Rainbows can be created with dollar store tablecloths,  streamers, paper or even sidewalk chalk. Just remember to have fun and skip your way to a fabulous party!

DIY Wood Photo Backdrop

I've been slowly changing over my Etsy shop photos to a white background but first had to build one in order to do so. I needed something a little larger since I photograph banners and a small sheet of 12X12 will only stretch so far, so off to the hardware store...

I purchased two sheets of TriPLY Underlayment 4X8' - I needed something that was going to be light enough for me to move around but sturdy enough so it wouldn't break in half. No special cuts, I just started cutting different lengths of the boards with a table saw, one board was cut horizontally and the other vertically, so I ended up with short and long boards.

Once all the pieces were cut, I lined up all the horizontally cut ones and then laid the vertically cut ones on top in a random pattern. I had to pause to call my Dad and ask how to change out the liquid nails tube, happens to the best of us! and then I started gluing each board in place and put down scrap wood on top to help set it in place.

Once everything had set, I waited till the next day, I pulled out the sander and sanded both sides and rounded the corners a bit. The plans were to make one side white and make the other side more vintage but I just kept them both white. Two coats of paint on each side and I have a background perfect for photographing my Etsy shop items!

Have you created your own photography backdrop?
I'd love to see. Link your backdrop blog post in the comments!

Gold Dipped Painted Letters - Teacher Gift

Looking for a golden way to thank your teachers this Christmas? These gold dipped painted letters are a great craft that your kids can paint in a jiffy!

I picked up the letters from a craft store, they are lightweight and made of hollow cardboard. The paint, I had on hand..just pulled out the colors and let my kids pick the ones they'd like to use. Paper plates made a great spot for paint, easy clean up and you only have brushes to clean.

The gold dipping is actually just a touch of spray paint, I waited a day to make sure the letters were completely dry before taping off the ends with green painter's tape and used a magazine to protect the rest of the letter from the gold spray.

I thought they turned out super cute and my kids were very proud of their painting skills.
You can't start thinking about Christmas gifts too early and if you start now, you won't be as frantic in December - happy painting!!
