St. Patrick's Day Banner and Pot of Gold

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

This week celebrates the classified school employees including secretaries, custodians, bus drivers, maintenance crews, computer technicians, teacher assistants and food service employees, among others. So I whipped up this fun little set for the secretaries at our school.

St Patrick's Day Banner & Pot of Gold - LeroyLime

A fun St. Patty's Banner and Pot of Gold filled with fun green fluffy pens that would look super cute for Dr. Seuss week as well. Don't they looked like something from Whoville?!

I picked up a simple clay pot and gave it a quick makeover with a touch of gold spray paint, punched out a paper circle to cover the hole in the bottom of the pot and set it inside, to keep the little split peas from spilling out the bottom.

The green shamrocks were uber inexpensive at $1 a bag for 5 of them, I picked up two bags and turned the rest into simple necklaces in case the ladies forgot to wear something green. My
crop-a-dile easily punched through the foam shamrocks, so they could be strung along with the paper pennants for the banner. *tip - take a small piece of washi tape and wrap it around the end of your bakers twine for easy threading. Gold Glitter Letters added a nice whimsical touch.

Next, the fun fluffy pens!! The green fluff balls were 40% off at our local craft store, so I picked up 5 and cut the wires down a bit to fit the pens. Using green floral tape, I wrapped the two together. If you're not a fan of the slight stickiness of the floral tape, wrap again with washi tape and seal down the ends with a small glue dot.

Isn't it such a cute set? The ladies were THRILLED when they saw the fluffy pens. A simple and thoughtful way to say thanks to someone who supports your children throughout the school year. These would also be great for teachers too!!

Mood Board Monday - Green/Gold

I love color but recently I've taken to adding whites into our home space. Whites are easy, they brighten a room. Whites add texture and timeless elegance. That's not to say I still don't have pops of color around the house, I do. I believe color is the easiest way to change the look and feel of a room, without much fuss.

Taking that in mind, I've created this story board which showcases how you can easily bring in a pop of color to a neutral zone. I fell in love with this green chair over at Chairish and I worked this mood board around that piece. Looking for a fun statement chair of your own? You can browse through the entire collection of vintage accent chairs here.

I love raw old wooden furniture, they are not only durable in moves but if they get dinged up, it just adds more character to each piece.

Adding small golden touches also adds warmth and glam to any room and if you can't find gold pieces to work with you can always spray paint them!

Don't forget a cozy throw and textured throw pillows.
Be brave, be bold, add color!

My LeroyLime Workspace

Well, I guess you could say, you can't pinch me in my LeroyLime workspace,
as my pop of color amidst all the white is non other than GREEN!!

and since Spring is right around the corner, a bit of organization inspiration
for you all - sit back, check it out, enjoy & pop over if you want to create
or just gab over a cup of coffee!

I'm not going to lie...my desk RARELY looks like that
but I just moved a few things to a folding table I use every
now and again when I have large projects I'm working on.

My carpet is either littered with baby toys or cleared for
my workouts. Where I'm standing to take the photos,
there isn't a wall, it's an open room, which makes it a nice
space for me to work. I can still be present, not hidden
away and my kiddos are extremely good about keeping
their tiny paws off Mama's goodies!

I'd love to hear what you think...comments with any questions
you have about something you're struggling with organizing in
your craft room or home. I'd love to help!

St. Patty's Day Banner

I'm a BIG fan of March...
not only is it my Birthday month
BUT
it's also home to St. Patty's Day!
(and I just so happen to be fond of the color green)

I picked up these cute little felt clovers last year
and never got around to using them but knew I
wanted to make a banner, sooooo...

step 1. I used a small piece of washi tape at the end of my bakers
twine to keep it from unraveling and easier to thread through the holes

step 2. you can either thread your twine behind or infront of your banner
pieces, I usually choose to put it behind as I don't want it to be the focal point

step 3. since my felt pieces are bigger than the paper pennants, I ripped off
just the middle portion of the already sticky backs
and stuck it down leaving the sides still intact

step 4. I used my Big Shot and Sizzix letter set to create the phrase I wanted
my banner to say

Isn't it cute?!

DIY Paint and Sticky Vinyl

I got my 'paint on' and accomplished this project that has been on
my to-do list for quite some time now. My punch wall is actually a thick
piece of painted MDF with IKEA hardware, perfect for displaying my
wide assortment of punches that I use frequently. Since we move every
couple of years, I wanted it to be easy to start unpacking my office space
and the punches take up quite a bit of space if they are in drawers. Not to
mention, if you can't see them, you forget you have them! So I'm a
huge cheerleader for using wall space in an office/studio.

I love the Stampin' Up! Sizzix Die Cut called "The Top Note", so free
handed the shape out in pencil after taping up where I wanted the create
vinyl saying to go. I painted two coats around the sides before filling
in the middle, waited for it to dry and then carefully placed the vinyl.

It's perfectly imperfect and I love the pop of green in my very white
studio space! A super quick and easy project to add a little smile
to any room, you could also do this on a smaller piece of wood,
for ease of moving or hanging above a doorway, etc.

DIY Mail Holder

Back with another Trashy Treasure. This sorry old brown Lillian Vernon (my Mom used to get their catalogs all the time when I was little) bill payer thing was placed outside next to a garbage can in Newport, RI...yet another one of my little finds that we moved to the Midwest. Oh Joy! Can't you hear my hubbies eyes rolling from here?

Clearly I was having a lightbulb moment, clouded judgement, when I thought..."hey, this would be great to stash a years worth of cards in"
I had my hubs rip out every other section to make larger slots for my cards and then I got to work.

A quick sand by hand just to scratch up the surface, lighten the numbers and monogram that were on the box, then my first light coat of white spray paint.
The first coat was too thick and started to bubble, so I just wiped it off the fronts of the drawers and started again, no problemo!

Two coats of white later,
I pulled some scrapbook stickers out of my stash and started putting on letters for the months of the year...ripped those off in a jiffy and went with numbers instead.
I then started on my Green Apple...

3 coats later, I waited for it to dry completely before peeling off my stickers to reveal the white numbers that remained and yes, I was totally patting myself on the back right about now!

A bit of measuring and drilling (in pearls and jeans, I might add) for my snazzy new green Hobby Lobby knobs...
a quick chevron designer paper to jazz up the bottoms of my drawers and viola!

She's ready for business!

I added a bit of metal hardware to the front to cover up the impression of the monogram, I was so excited to take pics, I forgot to fill it first!

So, what do you think? Would you have picked this sad piece of trash off the curb??
