DIY Paper Bag Banner

How to make a Paper Bag Banner - LeroyLime

Yes, you read that correctly...the pennants on this banner were made from a single brown paper bag!
If you buy groceries, you're bound to have a paper bag lying around somewhere.

Supplies needed:
1 Brown Paper Bag
Marker or pen
Scissors
Ruler
Hole Punch or Crop-O-Dile
Hot Glue Gun/Glue Stick
Chipboard or Sticker Letters
Bakers Twine, String or Yarn

How to make a paper bag banner

First I cut along one of the edges and around the bottom of the bag to remove the bottom piece. I used the bottom to create my template since it's normally thicker than the sides of the bag itself. Snip off the handles, if you'd like, so they don't get in your way.

Grab your ruler and draw an outline of a pennant. Cut this out and use this as your template so all of your banner pieces are the same size.

Open up your bag on a flat surface and trace your template pennant with your marker. I chose the word Harvest since Thanksgiving is the next holiday and traced two extra pennants to use at each end.

I crumpled up each triangle piece to give it more texture and to hide the bag lines. This step can be skipped if you don't like the worn look.

How to make a paper bag banner

Stack your pennants on top of each other and either use a Crop A Dile to punch through the entire stack at once or you can use a simple hole punch and punch each piece one by one, in the top two corners.

I had some chipboard letters lying around from a clearance sale at Target, so I picked out the letters needed to spell my word and plugging in my hot glue gun.

To add a little more color to my banner, I strung it with orange/white bakers twine.
Tip: wrap a small piece of washi tape on the end for easier threading

Some pretty fall leaves, which we've been collecting on our bike rides add a fun fall touch to the ends. A squirt of hot glue for the leaves and letters...banner complete!

Valentine Heart Banner - Kid Craft

Got all four of my chickens involved in decorating this
year for February. I die cut out these hearts in white cardstock,
and let them go to town with craft paint and Q-Tips.

Love those sweet little hands...

After the hearts were dry, a simple hole punch for
ease of threading bakers twine (or you can use yarn)
and then die cut letters to spell your desired phrase.
You can also use stickers or draw directly onto
the dry painted hearts with a sharpie marker,
if you don't have die cuts for lettering.

Fall in LOVE with Decorating

Swung by Wally World today to snag a few of my favorite
glass jars (yup, I just said Wally World) and to my surprise,
I found a few other fun items, to get me in the mood to pull
out the dreaded but fun orange topped tubs from storage...

Two pieces of black 'creepy' gauze, One large glass jar, One
black large pumpkin, A sparkly BEWARE sign, A large black owl
and A roll of black sparkly tulle were the only purchases.
The rest was tucked away, nothing got broken in the move, woohoo!!

I didn't realize my hubby had a fear of rats until last year,
when his co workers would leave them in unsuspecting places
and he'd end up chucking them back at them...haha
...let's see if he can find the two in our house!

A little bit creepy, a little bit dreamy...
and a lot of fun, don't you think?

Vintage Circus Unisex Nursery Wall Art

After trying to locate all of the nursery photos to share with a friend
the other day, I realized that I have not properly written a full post
and shared photos, now that the nursery is completely done.

The baby will be 9 months the end of this month, can't believe
it!! These photos were taken when she was a little bigger than a
newborn, 14 days old. She was a stinker and stayed awake
almost the entire photo shoot but I LOVE how they turned out.

The wooden Circus banner I found on Pottery Barn Kids for
a steal! Only $10 with free shipping, I couldn't pass it up!

The little red shelves are from Hobby Lobby, the perfect
planking of the repurposed window that I found on the curb
in Newport - thank you hubby for fixing it up a bit!

Robot Party Decor

I had a friend request a banner and cupcake toppers for a
Robot baby shower she was hosting. A robot WHAT?..I said, haha.

I pulled out my ONE robot stamp, matched the colors to the
baby's room and thought everything turned out pretty cute!

Just listed these in my etsy shop, so if you're hosting a
robot party, you've got a place to look!

Making Valentines

Another year of kid friendly Valentines and this
year with two of my little people in school, we had
double the amount.

We used acrylic paint for the hand and foot prints, then
I let the older three go crazy with glitter glue and stickers.
The perfect project to send to the Grandparents
for their Valentine wedding Anniversary!

I always keep my eye peeled for fun crafts or projects for
my kiddos. Since they see Mommy crafting all the time, they
like to get involved too. I picked up three boxes of cards at
Target and the kids stuck their Valentine greeting to the front,
then wrote and stamped inside for their friends.

We taped candy hearts onto each card with a bit of
Washi Tape for all the classmates. The teachers and school
staff will be getting these fun chocolate -one is a million- candy bars
and other assortment of Valentine chocolate candies.

My daughter made her Valentine box about two weeks ago
and just jazzed up the heart banner with a bit of glitter glue.

St. Patty's Day Banner

I'm a BIG fan of March...
not only is it my Birthday month
BUT
it's also home to St. Patty's Day!
(and I just so happen to be fond of the color green)

I picked up these cute little felt clovers last year
and never got around to using them but knew I
wanted to make a banner, sooooo...

step 1. I used a small piece of washi tape at the end of my bakers
twine to keep it from unraveling and easier to thread through the holes

step 2. you can either thread your twine behind or infront of your banner
pieces, I usually choose to put it behind as I don't want it to be the focal point

step 3. since my felt pieces are bigger than the paper pennants, I ripped off
just the middle portion of the already sticky backs
and stuck it down leaving the sides still intact

step 4. I used my Big Shot and Sizzix letter set to create the phrase I wanted
my banner to say

Isn't it cute?!
